Carmen

Dir: Carlos Suara, 1983, Spain (9.2*)

Best Foreign Film (BAA)
One of the most exciting dance films ever made. Suara and choreographer and star Antonio Gades filmed a trilogy of flamenco films (Blood Wedding, Carmen, El Amor Brujo), and this is the second part. The story involves a flamenco troupe rehearsing for a flamenco version of the famous Bizet opera, one that tells the story in dance. As the production progresses, the two lead dancers, with Laura del Sol as "Carmen", begin a relationship that mirrors the one in the story.

About This Blog

This is our new template: ProBlogger.

These are the individual film reviews of what I'm considering the best 1000 dvds available, whether they are films, miniseries, or live concerts. Rather than rush out all 1000 at once, I'm doing them over time to allow inclusion of new releases - in fact, 2008 has the most of any year so far, 30 titles in all; that was a very good year for films, one of the best ever.
