Diva

Jean-Jacques Beineix, 1981, France (9.1*)
This crime action film centers around an admiring opera fan who secretly records his favorite opera diva (who has refused to ever record) on a hidden, high quality recorder, thus making the rare tape a valuable item. Various criminal elements find out, and suddenly the young fan is the most wanted man in Europe, chased by gangsters and the police both. This is a very exciting action film, perhaps modern film noir, with great camera work and direction.

These are the individual film reviews of what I'm considering the best 1000 dvds available, whether they are films, miniseries, or live concerts. Rather than rush out all 1000 at once, I'm doing them over time to allow inclusion of new releases - in fact, 2008 has the most of any year so far, 30 titles in all; that was a very good year for films, one of the best ever.
