The Philadelphia Story

Dir: George Cukor, 1940, bw (8.8*)

AFI Top 100
Terrific classic comedy of the screwball genre. Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant play ex's who have the perfect love/hate relationship, and somehow can't seem to stay away from each other, while reporter James Stewart (Oscar® winner for Supporting Actor) completes this riotous love triangle. He's there to report on Hepburn's upcoming high society wedding, and no one can figure out why ex Grant is there. One of the best of its era and type. Look for Grant grabbing Hepburn's face and shoving her down to the floor, just like we all would like to do at times! 6 nominations, 2 Oscars® (Screenplay, Supp. Actor)

About This Blog

This is our new template: ProBlogger.

These are the individual film reviews of what I'm considering the best 1000 dvds available, whether they are films, miniseries, or live concerts. Rather than rush out all 1000 at once, I'm doing them over time to allow inclusion of new releases - in fact, 2008 has the most of any year so far, 30 titles in all; that was a very good year for films, one of the best ever.
