Closer

Dir: Mike Nichols, 2004 (7.6*)
Complex and involved love story that features four people: Julia Roberts as a photographer, her lover Clive Owen, a new art friend and interest played by Jude Law, and his live-in girlfriend Natalie Portman. Relationships change, some get further apart, some get closer. Both Portman and Owen were nominated for supporting acting Oscars, both won Golden Globes. Portman was particularly impressive, in a non-stereotypical role for her as a stripper. No more "innocent gir/princess next door", at least not in this film, she’s again as fresh as when a 12 yr old in her first film, "The Professional".

About This Blog

This is our new template: ProBlogger.

These are the individual film reviews of what I'm considering the best 1000 dvds available, whether they are films, miniseries, or live concerts. Rather than rush out all 1000 at once, I'm doing them over time to allow inclusion of new releases - in fact, 2008 has the most of any year so far, 30 titles in all; that was a very good year for films, one of the best ever.
