Midnight Cowboy

Dir: John Schlesinger, 1969 (9.0*)
Best Picture (AA, BAA)

AFI Top 100
A instant classic, thanks to the acting of Jon Voight (Oscar nominated) as cowboy Joe Buck, who hoofs it to New York City from Texas to be a male gigolo. He runs into problems there however, and Dustin Hoffman as Ratso Rizzo, a limpy, sniveling street rat who shows Joe how to survive. Gritty and unrelenting, the first X (but really R by more modern standards) movie to win Best Picture. Dustin Hoffman still says this was his best part, nominated for Actor. 3 Oscars (Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay)

About This Blog

This is our new template: ProBlogger.

These are the individual film reviews of what I'm considering the best 1000 dvds available, whether they are films, miniseries, or live concerts. Rather than rush out all 1000 at once, I'm doing them over time to allow inclusion of new releases - in fact, 2008 has the most of any year so far, 30 titles in all; that was a very good year for films, one of the best ever.
